Composting is an accessible way New Yorkers can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the rodent population, while also turning organic waste into energy and nutrient-rich compost for our city parks and gardens. GrowNYC’s Compost Program strives to make composting second nature for all New Yorkers by operating 50 free residential Food Scrap Drop-off sites across the city, diverting millions of pounds of foods scraps from landfills each year. GrowNYC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to empower all New Yorkers to equitably access fresh, locally grown food and neighborhood green spaces, reduce waste, and care for the environment.
