About this PSA

Every New Yorker’s family story, regardless of their ancestral origins, is important and deserves recognition. Preserving Your New York Story is a free program that empowers NYC residents to explore and preserve their own family history through educational programs and hands-on archival preservation opportunities for their own records. This free program supports underserved and underrepresented communities in the New York City area who may lack familiarity with how to get started on family history or access to research tools.

About the Organization

The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) preserves, documents, and shares family history and stories from across New York State. We engage with people and organizations to establish the broader contexts of New York’s past and foster connections between New York’s past and present. Founded in 1869, the NYG&B is the oldest and largest genealogical society in New York State. We have been helping people from all walks of life uncover their New York family history for the past 150 years. Learn more at newyorkfamilyhistory.org.
